Awful Experience...

My awful experience with this detector started when I was bench testing it with a 20p coin and only got 6 inches (?!) of detection distance. Then I discovered more troubles with the Evo 6000 in real-world use. I took it to a permission that is littered with non-ferrous rubbish. I used "Inland" search mode with Ground Tracking mode and set the recovery speed to 3 as recommended by C.Scope.

To my dismay, there was clearly something wrong with the detector, as it did not give me a stable repeatable signal, even when there was a shallow non-ferrous target under the coil. All target responses were 1-way or clipped. But the worst thing in this detector's performance was the incredible audio lag. The metal detector signaled any target with a significant delay after the coil passed over the target. Thus, pinpointing targets using only the coil, that is, without using the Pinpoint function, was impossible! I figured out that I had to increase the Recovery Speed to the max in order to get at least an approximate target location. Doing so sure resulted in a significant loss of depth.

The next bad surprise was that the Pinpoint mode itself was not working properly. Not to mention that the interface for using this mode is absolutely ridiculous: you have to press the button to turn it on, and press the button again to turn it off, instead of just pressing and holding the button as is usually done on other metal detectors. Anyway, several times during the hunt, I could not switch off the Pinpoint mode even after tapping the Pinpoint button repeatedly. After each unsuccessful attempt, I had to turn the detector off while it was howling non-stop! And this was not all!

Another annoying inconvenience was the frequent disconnection of wireless headphones. Each time this happened, I had to halt my search, take my gloves off, and press buttons to reconnect the detector to the headset. Eventually, I stopped using the headphones and resorted to the machine's loudspeaker only.

What else drove me crazy? It was a low tone buzz that would appear and continued with every swing of the search coil. It seemed like the Ground Tracking function was not working well. Even turning the Sensitivity down to 60% did not help, and the noise was so tiring that I had to turn off the detector to get some rest from the noise.

After 3 hours of struggling with this dysfunctional metal detector, I gave up. In fact, my desire was to brake this thing in half... Well, I did not because I wanted my money back. I did send the Evo 6000 back and got the refund.
