Treasure Hunting Equipment - Miscellaneous Items

To name all the small and useful items used in the treasure hunting process, it would require building up another web site. I just want to include a few that I use frequently during my metal detecting outings.

Bug Repellent

I cannot go out without this one! My choice is "Cutter" because of the low content of Deet (only 7%) in it. If it is contained in the bug repellent in large quantities, Deet is responsible for destroying plastics, for example, on the cushions of headphones.

Coin Container

I use a pill or a medical "sample container" that could fit even a coin of a dollar size. I fill the container with cotton balls, so the coins would not move and scratch each other inside. I always keep this container in my finds pouch.

Coin Containers

If I expect to dig up valuable coins, I use a coin container with many individually detachable compartments.

Magnifying Glass

This is another important item used in the field. To determine the age of the metal detecting site, it is important to determine the age of coins and relics. That is when the magnifying glass comes in handy!

Waterproof Plastic Pouch

This is the only way to protect your maps from the dirt and moisture. The waterproof pouch allows you to consult the map while scouting in the wilderness during the rainy weather.

Emergency Blanket

It is good to have it just in case. And it does not take much space in one's backpack.

Pepper Spray PUNCH II

I take this one along when going to the wilderness in case of sudden encounter face-to-face with potentially harmful wild animals or with domesticated "two-legged ones." Just make sure carrying this item is in compliance with local law.

PUNCH II utilizes a proven formula which enables this product to serve as an instantly effective less-than-lethal aerosol subject restraint weapon. A one-second spray into the face dilates the capillaries of the eyes, causing temporary blindness. It induces choking, coughing, nausea, and mucous membranes swell to prevent all but life-supporting breathing, giving rapid 'knockdown' and preventing further aggressive activity. PUNCH II can control all subjects, even persons not able to feel pain, persons under the influence of drugs, and extreme psychotics.

Survival Knife

No words are necessary to explain the usefulness of the survival knife with an emergency kit contained inside the handle.

Monocular

I use this monocular during my scouting for potential sites in the mountains where I can use the distance to my advantage. It helps in spotting the abnormalities in the surroundings.
