Cache Hunting - Discovering A Hoard of Silver Hammered Coins (Story 14)

Silver Hammered Coins of The Tsars Ivan III Vasilievich and Vasiliy III Ivanovich

Firstly, the oldest silver coins in the cache were two Dengas of the Czar Ivan III and one Denga of the Tsar Vasiliy III Ivanovich. All three dengas were hammered at the Novgorod mint.

Sometimes referred to as the "gatherer of the Russian lands", Ivan III Vasilievich (Russian: Иван III Васильевич), also known as Ivan the Great, a Grand Prince of Moscow and a Grand Prince of All Russia ("Великий Князь Всея Руси"), was one of the longest-reigning Russian rulers in history. During his reign from 1462 to 1505, he tripled the territory of his state, renovated the Moscow Kremlin, and laid the foundations of the Russian state. His son Czar Vasiliy III Ivanovich continued the policies of his father and spent most of 28 years of his reign (from 1505 to 1533) consolidating his father's gains.
