Cache Hunting - Discovering A Hoard of Silver Hammered Coins (Story 14)
To my disappointment, the "coin" did not have any visible design on its both sides, and, because of its thinness, it looked like it was flattened. This find joined my collection of unidentified coins.
Both Sides Without Design

My next find was a broken signet ring.

I wished it was a complete ring because it was in well preserved condition - the bronze was shining on the edges.

The inscription engraved on a signet suggested that it was a ring-seal that possibly belonged to a merchant. The bronze alloy of a good quality could indicate that the ring was made even in the early 1700s.

As I was enjoying my find, Misha shouted to me and waved his hand inviting me to come over. I had already anticipated that he would find another wire money coin. My guess was right.
Another "Fish Scale" Recovered

The fact that two valuable coins were discovered at the remote spot in the field implied the idea that those coins were not there by accident. Now it was exciting to realize that we were only one step away from the "jackpot." That was a joyful moment, but suddenly Misha's phone rang...
We had to leave the site immediately as Misha received a phone call from his wife and had to get home as soon as possible. We marked the spot where the hammered coins were discovered, loaded our metal detectors into Misha's vehicle and left the field until next time.
